Magic Cozy Needle Felted Pincushion NeedledByNydam

Woo Hoo! It is done. All the the magic was working and this pincushion came together beautifully. I had so much fun designing this. I love wool! Setting an auction up at eBay is not really all that hard, I'm a little rusty.

I am posting this picture of the dog, whom shall remain nameless. Just after our last “snowfall.”
She was not to happy because there was not enough to tunnel into and because, I forgot she was out! Here she is. My Golden Girl. Everyone who knows her name knows it and to everyone else she can be Ms. Snowdog, if you give her enough rope she won’t make it back to the door. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? Today she learned how to bark, for me. The thing is, what she was suppose to be learning, was how to come back the same route she went out.
But to bark was a good thing for her to do, especially, since she only ever barks for her master and never for me. I let her out and I forget her. I have to put her on a rope now because she wandered across the street. Once I found out, she lost her freedom. Before that she used to come when I called her. But she always came up behind me. So I kept calling and she would keep on wagging her tail but never bark to let me know she was behind me.
Wonders upon wonders today she found her voice. Woof ! She sounds a little hoarse. When she barks for her master everyday when he arrives home she sounds like a puppy yipping and joyful. But I get a deep low guttural woof. She’s been hanging around me so long she now sounds like me.

Ta Dah! That's the Magic. The Magician has backfired a trick and now he is small enough to fit in a thimble. A real Cozy!

My Tool Kit

The toolbox is nice and it helps me to stay organized but the essentials for me are a glove and a needle. Even better than the glove is a piece of suede. An extra pair of glasses helps when I put in the detail. On Christmas Day I made my needles a Cozy. It works well and was easy to make first I needled some wool then I stuffed it into an unused eyeglass case and needled some more. I put the needles in it then put on the cover. Voila!

For me needlefelting is like magic. I never know what will appear until I needle away at the fluffs of wool. I might start off with a general idea but what comes is usually a surprise. I have even tried to duplicate the process and still each wooly has it's own character.

So this is the story Morning Glory of Ruby Rose. She is a little sweetheart. I gave her red garnet eyes using beads from an antique necklace. So, if she looks like an old soul, that is why. The hot chocolate cup is old also. When she snuggles down into the cup deep, her ponytail looks like steam and her head reminds me of marshmallow. The first thing to give her away is the pink bow on her head. Okay, that's the story of Ruby Rose and off to Etsy she now goes.

I just was not thinking! I heard the commotion outside and grabbed my camera. I don't think I will go eyeball to eyeball with another bird of prey. But when I was three feet away from it, I wished that I had grabbed my coat. I wished my camera was set for something other than point and shoot. I hoped I did not slip on the ice and wished I never came out. What was I thinking? I knew I had two brain cells but I froze and couldn't rub them together. I put myself out there in harms way and I just kept snapping photos and waving my arms.

Of course if I had a little lamb I might know what one really looked like. But I don't so you will know this is a lamb because I said so. Not that it even has a face yet. I'm still wondering if it should have a voice. Now, what will the coat look like? Feel free to chime in with suggestions. Not that I always follow or that I ever do, but I will take your suggestions under advisement. Maybe.

My first day needle felting I broke five needles. All at the same time. Then I needled using one needle at a time and broke three more over the next week.
Every now and then, just before the wool is gone, I wish for a little lamb. I told my husband he wouldn't have to mow the lawn if we had a lamb. He loves to mow the lawn and work in the gardens. He is the artist, he would deny it. He is though, the flowers are the brushes. The earth is his canvas and he is the tool. He moves huge stones and rocks to build landscapes. The grass is so green. But there is no room here for a lamb. I wonder do lambs shed? I just love wool so much. My youngest daughter has a vision of my lamb being a naked lamb. I envision the little lamb wearing a winter coat that I made myself with matching booties and scarf. Yes, I will work on that. (Needled By Nydam trademark copyright)
